A world filled with the forgotten poor, sick and dying found a champion in this Roman Catholic founder of a religious order. Her energy, spirituality and selflessness brought her a fame she spurned. This Nobel Peace Prize winner, tiny in stature, became a towering figure in 20th century history. Though she died in Calcutta, India in 1997, her work goes on through the Missionaries of Charity, the congregation of nuns she established.
By the time she won the Nobel Peace Prize, Mother Teresa’s order numbered more than 1,000 nuns with ministries in more than 200 locations worldwide.
Not only does her work go on, but her words also will for all time ring true: “It is not how much we do, but how much love we put in the doing. It is not how much we give, but how much love we put in the giving.”
